Remastered Ubuntu Linux

Published: February 06, 2012 by Administrator

Short description

The remastered Ubuntu 10.04 distribution contains all the drivers and applications for controlling the KUKA youBot. Beside these, it is equivalent to the standard distribution and can be used as a bootable live media or for installation. It can be used almost on any PC and is not limited to the onboard PC of the KUKA youBot.

Creating the Live media

Follow the download link below to get the iso image. Create the Live-media using a creator tool like Live USB creator or Unetbootin. On Ubuntu the “Live USB creator” is available in the package usb-creator, usb-creator-kde on Kubuntu, or usb-creator-gtk.

$ sudo apt-get install usb-creator usb-creator-gtk

The second tool Unetbootin is also available for Windows. You can download the binary/executable from the following site: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
For further information please look into the KUKA youBot User Manual.

Running the PC from the youBot Live-USB:
  • Start your PC from the USB stick
  • When starting, you will get a boot prompt. Just press Enter.
  • Select one of the items in the following menu, except the installation one.
  • After booting, you can log into as the user "youbot" with password "youbot"
Installing the Ubuntu operating system from the youBot Live-USB:

NOTE: Before you start the installation, make a backup of your hard disk. You should also be familiar with making partitions, before you make any changes.
  • Start your PC from the USB stick
  • When starting, you will get a boot prompt. Just press Enter.
  • Select the "installation" item to install the operating system
The following installation steps are the standard installation routine of Ubuntu as described in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall

NOTE: There is just one exception compared to the standard installation. If the “Who are you?” window appears, you have to set a name, but this will have no effect to your system. After the installation there will always be the user "youbot" with password "youbot". You can only change the name of your PC.
